Surprise Visit Gone Wrong Makes This Couple’s Story Go Viral

What’s the most hilarious surprise fail you’ve experienced in your relationships? Let me share my story of trying to throw a surprise birthday party for my boyfriend.

The night before, I was busy decorating a room at the University’s Technology Park. I had invited all our friends to arrive 30 minutes early, ready to shout “Happy Birthday!” when he stepped in.

I told him to meet me at the tech park at 8 pm, saying I’d be wrapping up a project. We were all excitedly waiting for him to arrive so the fun could begin. But by 8:30 pm, I sensed something was off and gave him a call.

He said he couldn’t find me and had gone to the library. I rushed to the library but no sign of him, so I called again. He picked up laughing, and I discovered that while I was en route to the library, he had returned to the tech-park and actually surprised all our friends instead!

Our grand plan failed spectacularly! 😀

Speaking of surprise fails, let me share a side-splitting story that seems like it’s straight out of a movie, but it genuinely happened to a couple who became internet famous.

They headed in opposite directions for the same reason

A woman named Salma Saade shared a humorous tale on Twitter (now X):

“Happy 4 year anniversary to when I flew to Edinburgh to surprise Finlay and he flew to Paris to surprise me, and why we no longer do surprises.”

She mentioned arriving a day early in Edinburgh, intending to surprise her boyfriend Finlay, and texted his roommate Adam to see if Finlay was home. Adam’s hilarious reply was:

“Lol, he just flew to Paris. Like to do the same thing. Like literally.”

Salma thought Adam was kidding, but when he confirmed Finlay really flew to Paris to surprise her, she was stunned.

“It turns out we were in Edinburgh Airport at the same time, going in opposite directions.”

You’ll laugh out loud at their text exchange when they realized what happened. Imagine being at the same airport at the same time!

Salma also shared a screenshot of Finlay’s Facebook post when he realized she wasn’t in Paris.

Check out some of the comments. One person wrote they “are clearly meant to be while another joked about the carbon footprint of their love 😀.

The Twitterverse agreed they’re “clearly meant to be”

Twitter users loved this “anniversary tale” and started sharing similar stories:

“Reminds me of the time my girlfriend bought a beautiful new chain for my pocket watch that I sold to buy a fancy beret for her that she sold to buy me the watch chain.”

Some compared it to a “Friends” episode:

“Funny, reminds me of that episode of Friends where Ross flew to London to fight for Emily while she flew back to New York to declare her love for him?”

One user even mentioned ‘New Girl’:

“Reminds me of the ‘New Girl’ episode where Jess decides to follow Ryan to London but he decides to spend the holiday with her so he flies back to Los Angeles to surprise her.”

They even had Netflix dramedy ideas:

“Hahaha, this is just priceless! When’s your new rom-com series dropping on Netflix?“

Life truly writes the best stories, and often, the most unbelievable movie plots are inspired by real events.
