This Is What Real Relationship Goals Look Like

Everywhere I look on my social media platforms, it seems like I can’t escape the #relationshipgoals tag.

While I occasionally spot sincere relationship aspirations, there are many instances where I find it hard to grasp their purpose.

Initially, it was charming—snaps of joyful partners, images of long-lasting love like grandma and grandpa’s 60-year journey, moments shared between best friends, and pets with their owners, among others.

Beneath each of these snapshots lies a profound message, conveying love, joy, companionship, and friendship, and I truly understood the intention behind them.

However, it didn’t take long before I noticed a rise in these contrived posts tagged under #relationshipgoals.

The images appeared artificial, showcasing couples in forced affection while not genuinely engaged with each other. Their lives seemed to exist only for the purpose of social media display, rather than in the moment.

This made me contemplate what true relationship goals genuinely entail.

I then compiled a list that surpasses anything usually encountered under #relationshipgoals:

The essence of relationship goals lies in fostering happiness between the individuals, not causing envy in others

If you are in love as a couple, there shouldn’t be any need to validate your relationship to outside observers.

Why should you care what others think and create such pressures within your partnership?

The absence of your love’s representation on social media doesn’t diminish its depth; rather, it enhances it. The bond you share is intimate, exceptional, and should be cherished by the two of you. Others’ perceptions are irrelevant.

Creating your personal oasis

A harmonious relationship is characterized by mutual understanding, support, respect, and open communication. They share private jokes and reference things that only the two of them comprehend.

They enjoy moments of laughter over inside jokes. Their bond is so strong that sometimes a small glance is all it takes to elicit joy.

It’s about connecting on a profound level, collectively dreaming, and strategizing for a shared future.

Embracing complete trust

It’s common knowledge that trust is the backbone of relationships, but many of us struggle to truly embody this principle.

Isn’t one of the core relationship goals to be with someone who you can fully trust?

Unfortunately, a lack of trust leads to the downfall of many relationships. We’ve likely all experienced trust issues that make it hard to be vulnerable and hope for positive change.

This results in unnecessary doubt and limitations in potentially strong partnerships.

When you choose to commit to someone, you need to believe in their integrity and consider them credible.

So, the next time their phone chimes, resist the urge to peek at it, avoid snooping when it’s unattended, and let go of the fabricated narratives that have no foundation in reality.

If there’s anything important to unearth, trust me—the truth has a way of surfacing when you least expect it.

Valuing the simple moments

True love is encapsulated in the small gestures that carry immense significance. It’s about investing quality time together in the manner that suits you best. It’s about sharing laughter and tears alike.

Transforming a mundane task like grocery shopping or a drive into a fun-filled adventure is part of it.

Waking up next to someone you adore gives you a profound sense of belonging. It’s about cherishing every moment you spend together.

Avoid places that don’t resonate with you just to flaunt a hashtag like #relationshipgoals for social media validation.

What’s the point of a lavish dinner if it’s overshadowed by tension with your partner, especially if that’s not your style?

A cozy candlelit pizza night could genuinely surpass any expensive meal, filled with joy and warmth between just the two of you.

Bound Together Yet Unconfined

At times, the anxiety of potentially losing someone dear can cause individuals to cling too fiercely.

This can result in actions that might stifle a relationship, such as the need to communicate constantly, or insist on FaceTiming when messages aren’t exchanged, or wanting to be together at every possible moment.

When you are living the relationship you desire, a deep-seated confidence in your partner is formed.

There’s an inherent understanding that your partner’s commitment isn’t solely proven through frequent messages or daily meetings.

The depth of your connection will remain constant, regardless of external factors.

Involvement in Each Other’s Lives

It’s the exchange of thoughts on myriad topics, bridging everything and nothing. Embracing the roles of both friends and lovers. It’s about forging a future together, prompting your partner to integrate you into their life.

Knowing each other’s circles and families shows your intertwined paths, allowing for shared plans.

Contemplating how your choices will impact your partner highlights a deep connection.

In moments of uncertainty, they are your go-to person for advice, and during significant life choices, they are your staunchest supporter.

The Importance of Care

We all possess the ability to care for each other, yet occasionally it’s the thoughtfulness of another that truly uplifts you.

This is particularly true when you’re feeling unwell and in need of comfort, such as homemade soup or tea. The mere presence of someone to fetch items or add a blanket can be incredibly reassuring.

Even during optimal health, having someone to care for you feels wonderful.

A genuine love inherently involves the responsibility of caring; they will go out of their way to ensure the happiness of their loved one. A little bit of affection can go a long way.

The Role of Intimacy

In a long-standing relationship, it is common for the intimacy to decrease.

This is not something to stress over. It’s a typical phase, even if many prefer not to acknowledge it openly.

Intimacy is a vital aspect of every relationship, and it’s entirely acceptable to enjoy time together without engaging in sexual activities constantly.

Sex should never be obligatory, and if either of you isn’t feeling it, it’s perfectly fine.

There are countless other activities to share; you can chat, share laughs, relax together, cuddle, view movies, or listen to music, simply appreciating each other’s presence. This kind of connection represents the highest form of intimacy you can achieve.

Being Authentic in a Relationship

Many individuals believe they must alter themselves to satisfy their partner.

While a relationship involves compromise and seeking commonality, it does not necessitate changing your essence.

No one should transform to accommodate another person. Doing so can lead to a loss of self and subsequent unhappiness.

Aiming for compatibility in a relationship is essential. Finding an imperfect person with whom you connect flawlessly.

The seemingly joyful couples on social media are not perfect; they find happiness through acceptance of each other’s imperfections.

A flourishing relationship should amplify your happiness, confidence, and vitality, not make you feel inadequate. Comfort with your partner is crucial.

Your strengths and weaknesses should be embraced, as your partner has them too.

The ideal relationship will be with someone who appreciates your uniqueness rather than seeking to mold you into an idea of ‘normal.’

Conflict Can Strengthen Bonds

Disagreements are a part of every relationship. Couples who claim they don’t argue might be suppressing their feelings, which could lead to a major emotional breakdown down the line.

It’s essential to recognize that some arguments should be avoided entirely, such as physical altercations or hostile behavior towards your partner.

If your disagreements escalate to that extent, it may be wise to reevaluate and likely end the relationship.

However, if you’re engaged in constructive disagreements where both sides are heard and validated, you’re on a promising path.

Arguments that reveal insights about you and your partner can facilitate personal and relational growth.

Don’t be swayed by the notion of fairytale relationships devoid of conflict. Disagreements are a natural part of love and can ultimately lead to a healthier partnership if approached positively.

Deep Connection with Each Other

You experience a deeper physical bond, one that eludes simple explanation. When passion intertwines with love and a shared understanding, it becomes truly unparalleled.

There’s no requirement to showcase pictures of you both showering affection on one another or lounging in bed for the public eye. That simply lacks taste.

Individuals’ intimate moments should remain just that—intimate. Relationship aspirations shouldn’t feature images of you both partially clothed in bed.

The enthusiasm you share is undeniably a relationship aspiration, yet keeping that flame visible solely to both of you only enhances its uniqueness and significance.

Embracing each other’s imperfections

It might seem harsh, but it rings true. Everyone possesses some flaws, and often these imperfections, much like our strengths, are intricately woven into our essence.

The primary goal is to be with an individual whose faults you can embrace.

There are those who may have minor or trivial flaws, yet even a second with them could prove unbearable in a romantic context.

However, with the person we genuinely adore, we learn to accept those shortcomings as part of their identity and often grow to love or at least tolerate them. We adapt to their flaws as they do to ours.

Falling for each other day by day

Partners in long-term relationships frequently overlook expressing thoughts or performing those little gestures of love, assuming that their significant other is aware of their feelings. This assumption can be detrimental.

Make it a point to remind your partner that you cherish them regularly, if not every single day. Compliment their appearance, whether they’re looking dapper, stunning, or even sweetly disheveled, appreciating all efforts made.

Go out for dates, embark on new adventures side by side, hit the road for trips. Create meaningful experiences together.

Those small tokens of love, joy, and companionship should always remain a practice and never come to be taken lightly.

Even if you believe someone might remain a constant in your life, that doesn’t mean your efforts can cease.

Endeavor to embrace these 13 relationship aspirations I’ve outlined, as they’re genuine, profound, and may lead you toward the ultimate dream of being each other’s everything and envisioning your future side by side.

Keep in mind: Relationships revolve solely around the two of you, not around public opinions, social media likes, or followers; they are about your commitment to each other.

There will be highs and lows, but these experiences contribute to your growth and fortify your bond.

Steer clear of the allure of social media snapshots. They are mere images, encapsulated moments.

They do not represent true life, and it’s wise not to trust everything we see online.

Ultimately, relationship aspirations can be fulfilled if you are in a position to have a healthy, robust, and loving connection, if you are paired with someone who appreciates your true self and desires your happiness, and if you both share a love that resonates equally.
